Hey Our Campfire Unplugged Friends!
We like to say our RV trips are “free and easy,” but… let’s be honest—sometimes they’re just wild.
This week’s update? Brought to you by Kansas wind storms and a serious audible. 🌬️
When Plans Shift with the Wind
The plan was to cross most of Missouri and Kansas in one day—long but doable in good conditions. That didn’t happen.
We hit steady 35+ mph winds with gusts over 45 mph. Our camper was fighting to stay straight on the road, and after a few hours, we decided to call it.
Luckily, we snagged the last site at Wilson RV Park in Kansas, and even luckier—it was pointed straight into the wind. We reset, decompressed, and made a new plan: hit the road at 5:30AM the next day and race the wind advisory.
And you know what? It worked.
We rolled into Colorado with a stronger appreciation for flexibility and a long list of stories to tell.
It’s not always smooth sailing (or towing), but the unexpected is part of the fun. RV life isn’t the same as driving to the beach and setting up a chair for 7 days—it’s an adventure. And that’s exactly why we do it.
Madeline sensed the day was tough—she offered me a hug. 🥹 Jack’s already planning next summer’s trip. And that’s the good stuff.
We won’t remember mini golf in Hilton Head in five years—but we will talk about racing the Kansas wind, sledding dunes, and hiking the Black Canyon of the Gunnison’s belly.
🧼 Keeping Your RV Water Fresh & Clean
When you live in a sticks-and-bricks house, you rarely think about your water system. RV life? Whole different story.
Water can stagnate between trips, leading to unpleasant smells or worse.
We finally sanitized our fresh water tank before our Shenandoah trip and—spoiler—it was WAY easier than we thought.
Wondering how long to leave bleach in your RV water tank?
