Hey Our Campfire Unplugged Friends!
According to this recent ABC article, families are chasing epic, memory-filled adventures in 2025. Think:
- Wildlife-rich destinations like Costa Rica or the Galápagos Islands
- Multi-generational trips with grandparents, parents, and kids (also known as "Grandma's got the credit card")
- A shift toward experiences over luxury—families want connection, not just beachfront cocktails
These trips sound amazing—but also expensive.
That’s why we still love what RV travel brings to the table: affordable mini-vacations, quality time, and great stories. For example, our weekend trip to Brown County, Indiana ran us:
- $250 for the campground
- $20 for park entry
- $25 for ice cream
- One tank of fuel
- And zero stress from airport lines!
That’s a whole weekend of adventure for less than a plane ticket.

💳 Using AI to Optimize Credit Card Rewards
Some families are also tapping into credit card points and rewards to offset vacation costs. I’ve been diving into this myself and used ChatGPT to explore whether we could do better with our current cards.
Inspired by Ramit Sethi's "I Will Teach You to Be Rich" (Amazon link), I compared rewards, benefits, and categories—and it turns out, we could improve slightly, but not without adding complexity. Simplicity still wins for us.
That said, AI is a huge help in this space. Want to try it?
🧠 3 ChatGPT Prompts to Understand Your Credit Card Benefits
- “ChatGPT, summarize the travel-related benefits of the Chase Sapphire Preferred and compare them to the Amex Gold.”
- “Here are the top categories I spend in—what credit card would give me the best overall return?”
- “Explain how my current credit card’s point system works. Is cash back or travel redemption more valuable?”
⚠️ Not financial advice. As Dave Ramsey says, no millionaire got rich off Discover cashback rewards. Use your cards responsibly and talk to a financial advisor for personalized guidance.
💧 What’s in Your Water?
When we’re in Louisville, we’re lucky to have great-tasting water. But on the road? That’s a different story.
Even “safe” water can taste off—and that’s why we started digging into RV water filters and purification systems. We tested 5 different methods to see what really works.
If you're traveling this summer—or even if your tap water at home has a funky taste—this one’s worth a read.
